the arcades of Japan

In my first Plain Text from Tokyo, I take a tour through the  crowded, enticing video arcades of the Shibuya district. No quarters needed to click on this link.

    hey, brad….

i enjoyed your commentary on arcades in tokyo. if you feel a little nostalgic for the games of old, just go to that one arcade in shibuya that has a large “1 play ¥50″ in white letters on a black background. upstairs you will find some classics! there’s a picture of the arcade sign on my flickr account. you may view it here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/glowingstar/146895230/

oh, and one more thing…when you go to akihabara, go to “super potato.” that place is a virtual museum of rare and old school video games! you can pick up all kinds of obscure titles and gaming machines for pretty cheap

also, the print club stickers are called “puri-kura,” not “puri-kara.” just letting you know!

enjoy your stay in japan! i live about 80km from tokyo, and i visit nearly every weekend. before i came to japan two years ago, i also lived in the bay area. i’ll be moving back to san francisco next year.

    later,
    tommy

ps - if you wanna grab a beer in tokyo some time, let me know!

Please do more than superficial research on the subject.
It’s painfully obvious how off base you are when you don’t even have correct facts. Arcades have in fact been on the decline for the last decade in Japan. The number of patrons and releases has declined. You’re here for the summer? Then, stop doing the gaijin thing and actually assimilate.
